Monday, February 22nd, 2021
DC BLOX, a provider of interconnected multi-tenant data centers that deliver the infrastructure and connectivity essential to power today’s digital business, announces the expansion of its Birmingham, AL data center. This expansion includes 1 MW of power capacity in response to growing customer demand, and completes the full build out of its first data hall. The expansion is expected to be ready for service in May of 2021.
The 1 MW of additional critical load, an amount sufficient to power nearly 1000 homes, is supplied by redundant feeds to each customer cabinet with dual UPS (universal power supply) and diesel generator backup systems. The Birmingham expansion also adds 135 tons of cooling capabilities, all in adherence to Tier III data center design standards. The DC BLOX facility, highly secure, provides customers a 100% power availability guarantee. DC BLOX designs and builds its data centers in smaller, growing cities across the Southeast utilizing a modular approach that allows the data center to meet local needs while enabling scalability driven by market demand. Future expansions will include the development of additional data halls to accommodate increasing capacity needs.
DC BLOX’s Birmingham facility enables access to a private, redundant, carrier-grade connectivity ecosystem that interconnects DC BLOX sites throughout the Southeast while enabling customers' connectivity to on-premises data centers, remote disaster recovery sites, and public cloud providers.
Purpose-built to meet regional market demands, the DC BLOX Birmingham facility is the only multi-tenant data center in the state of Alabama that holds Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification for Design and Certification of Constructed Facility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses have recognized the value of a data center partner that can offer a reliable facility for their IT infrastructure, while minimizing the need for company staff to be on-site.
“DC BLOX is pleased with the growing demand for our Birmingham data center. Alabama businesses and government entities are taking advantage of our reliable facilities and are benefiting from outsourcing the management of their critical infrastructure, which is proving even more valuable during the pandemic,” comments Mark Masi, Chief Operating Officer of DC BLOX.
The Birmingham Data Center expansion illustrates DC BLOX’s commitment to bringing top tier data center facilities to cities like Huntsville, Chattanooga, Greenville and other underserved markets providing local companies with the core infrastructure needed to digitally transform their businesses.
