Staff Report

Tuesday, September 21st, 2021

Agnes Scott is proud to announce the second annual Women’s Global Leadership Conference: Building a Better World: Women and Climate Justice

At Agnes Scott, we accept that successful responses to climate change must include social justice and lead to a more equitable and inclusive world. As part of this upcoming conference, we will bring together global, national, state and local leaders to share innovative solutions to the most important challenges of our times.

Please plan to join us as Wanjira Mathai and Pat Mitchell set the stage in conversation about global women’s leadership for climate action in our opening session.

Mathai is the vice president and regional director for Africa at the World Resources Institute. She has over 20 years of experience advocating for social and environmental change on the international stage, focusing on important global issues like sustainable energy.

Mitchell is a multimedia trailblazer, as an Emmy-winning producer and later as the first woman president and CEO of PBS. Mitchell also launched TEDWomen, serving as its editorial director, curator and host.

Throughout the conference, panel discussions will be dedicated to empowering leaders, building strong collaborations, creating “climate just communities,” and inspiring action for change. Themes of innovation, leadership, collaboration and community action will be the focus of presentations from business leaders, government representatives, scholars and advocacy organizations.  Alongside these local, national, and international leaders, Agnes Scott faculty, students, and alumnae will engage in sharing paths towards climate-just communities.

The virtual conference will be held at Agnes Scott College on September 23-24, with a Day of Action and Advocacy on September 25.
