Buckhead City’s Fundraising Surpasses $1 Million

Since May, Buckhead residents and businesses have contributed $1 million in support of the initiative to create Buckhead City, according to the Buckhead City Committee. The Buckhead City Committee expects to raise another million dollars before the end of this upcoming legislative session (April) to further advance Buckhead’s path to cityhood.

The question of whether to remove Buckhead neighborhoods from the jurisdiction of the City of Atlanta and incorporate as a distinct municipality may, via action of the Georgia General Assembly, appear on the November 2022 ballot. A poll released earlier this week revealed that a vast majority (64%) of Buckhead voters want to create a Buckhead City. Concern about crime and mismanagement by the City of Atlanta are the primary motivators of the initiative.

“Support in the Georgia General Assembly for the creation of Buckhead City has never been stronger,” said Bill White, CEO of the Buckhead City Committee. “Not only are the good people of Buckhead fed up with the rising crime, underfunded and understaffed police force, and lack of representation in decisions by the City of Atlanta, they are rightly unconvinced that any new Atlanta mayoral administration can effectively address such issues. While candidates like Kasim Reed have yet to break a 20% support threshold, we are seeing Buckhead residents stepping up with both moral and financial support for Buckhead City. Our message is resonating.”

The Buckhead City Committee is a volunteer organization of concerned citizens. Funds raised, says White, are being used to tend to legal and political counsel, advertising and promotional materials, yard signs, mailers, additional polling, establishing a new city charter, engaging judicial experts writing new city ordinances, and a lease for a new operational headquarters.

The Buckhead City Committee is a non-profit 501(c)(4) corporation registered with the state of Georgia. More at https://www.becnow.com.
