redefinED Atlanta Announces Dennis-Anthony Dent as its New Communications Director

redefinED atlanta, an education nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that every student in Atlanta has the opportunity to attend a great public school, is pleased to announce that Dennis-Anthony Dent and Lee Shaw, Jr., have joined its staff.

“Our staff is committed to helping families in Atlanta have access to a great public education in order to increase student well-being and close opportunity gaps,” said Ed Chang. “Dennis and Lee both have strong experience in their specialty areas that support our organization’s mission and will assist us in making positive changes in Atlanta's public schools.”

Dennis-Anthony Dent has more than a decade of experience working in communications. He began his professional career working in communications agencies DIVAend Entertainment and PR , Matlock ADPR and the Arketi Group where he provided a range of support for well-known consumer brands as well as financial technology and start-up companies. Dent also has years of practice with nonprofit organizations such as Points of Light and most recently, MovementForward, Inc., a social change organization focused on civil and human rights issues and advancement. 

 Dent also operated his own public relations consultancy business, Quill + Herald PR, and has been a contributing writer for RollingOut magazine. As redefinED’s Communications Director, Dent will oversee all internal and external communications, brand communications, social media execution, content creation as well as PR and media relations. 

 

Lee Shaw, Jr., has spent the majority of his career working with organizations that focused on serving youth. For close to 20 years, Shaw has worked in a leadership capacity with local and state councils aligned with the Boy Scouts of America. Most recently he was the Chief Executive Officer/Scout Executive of the W.D. Boyce Council headquartered in Peoria, Ill. Prior to his CEO role, Shaw served as the Director of National Alliances for the Boy Scouts of America in Irving, Texas and Chief Operating Officer for the Simon Kenton Council, BSA in Columbus, Ohio. 

In his new role as the Director of Donor Engagement for redefinED atlanta, Shaw will be responsible for helping to drive strategy and overseeing the major giving program for the nonprofit. He graduated from Clarion University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
