Deron King Appointed as East Point’s New City Manager

On January 10, 2022, the East Point City Council appointed Deron King to the City Manager position. King previously served as Deputy City Manager for the City of East Point for seven years. He is a seasoned government administrator with approximately 15 years of professional local government executive experience.


“I am extremely honored to serve as the City Manager for our great community and look
forward to continue working together with our Mayor and Council as we move our excellent City
into the future,” said Deron King, City Manager for the City of East Point.


As Deputy City Manager, Deron King served as Project Manager for the design and construction
of East Point’s new 32,000 square foot City Hall completed in 2019. He’s currently serving as
Project Manager on renovations to the City’s Old Auditorium building. He was also instrumental
in the City’s transition to utilizing Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) technology for the City’s
utilities. In October of 2021, he received the Credentialed Manager designation from the
International City/County Management Association (ICMA). He is one of more than 1,300 local
government management professionals currently credentialed through the association’s
Voluntary Credentialing Program. In 2020, he also received a Master Certificate for completing
ICMA’s High Performance Leadership Class with the Professional Development Academy.


Prior to his appointment in the City of East Point as City Manager and Deputy City Manager, he
served as City Manager for Waycross, Forsyth and Stone Mountain. Some of his accomplishments include overseeing the rehabilitation of the historic Waycross City Auditorium and serving as an original team member in the relocation of the Department of Corrections in Forsyth, Georgia to Atlanta, Georgia. He also served as the Executive Director of BK & DK Associates, LLC, a family-owned residential rehabilitation company. King currently serves as a member of the Human Resources and Ethics Committee for the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.


King is a proud native of Chicago, Illinois. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the
University of Iowa in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration Degree from Clark
Atlanta University. He succeeds former City Manager Fredrick Gardiner who was recently
appointed as the new City Manager for the City of Stockbridge.
