Alair Homes Decatur Wins Two National Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards for a Historic Midtown Home Renovation
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022
Alair Homes Decatur, an Alair Homes North Georgia partner, has just been awarded two National CotY (Contractor of the Year) Awards by NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry. The projects were selected from hundreds of entries submitted by home remodeling companies across the country. Both Alair Decatur entries won Regional CotY Awards earlier this year for work done on a historic Midtown home near Piedmont Park. Alair North Georgia Regional Partner David Michelson, who is currently serving as President of NARI Atlanta, was on hand at the organization’s annual national convention to accept the honors.
Alair Decatur’s two National CotY Awards are for:
Residential Interior $250,001 to $500,000
Residential Exterior $50,000 to $100,000
Alair Decatur was selected by an Atlanta family to modernize their 100+-year-old home without losing any of the structure’s character and beauty. While the home, originally built in 1910, was unmatched for its location and potential, it lacked a true primary suite, a modern and inviting kitchen, upgraded bathrooms and room for guests. Alair Decatur honored the home’s charm and history by retaining the original door hardware, front door, original staircase, three original fireplaces and original layout (with some modifications). New materials for the bathrooms and kitchens seamlessly accentuate the home’s architectural elements, and an updated laundry and guest suite were added. Outside, a historically appropriate covered, second-story porch at the front of the house enhances the home’s appeal and adds much-needed space for the family to enjoy.
The National CotY Awards recognize the highest level of excellence for the remodeling industry. Honors are given in nearly 50 categories, allowing for projects of all sizes and scopes to be rewarded for outstanding design and craftsmanship. NARI members from across the U.S. submit projects for consideration, which are judged by independent panels of experts.
“The National CotY Awards are like the Academy Awards of the remodeling industry,” said Heather Shuster, Alair Decatur partner. “The nominations represent the very best in remodeling, from large, whole-home renovations, to smaller, single-room projects. It’s highly competitive and always very exciting to win. This project in particular was extremely challenging, since we wanted to preserve as much of the structure’s historic architecture and unique features as possible, while still creating functional, livable space for an active, modern family.”
