The Georgia Archives’ Lunch and Learn presentation, “Victorian Christmas Traditions at Stately Oaks,” by Stately Oaks board members, will be held onsite. The presentation is on Friday, December 9, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia Archives, 5800 Jonesboro Road, Morrow, Ga.

Please join Stately Oaks board members Beverly Lester, Karen Sullivan, Mary Anne Brannon, and Tracey Messick as they give a presentation on some of the Victorian Christmas traditions that helped to form the very traditions that we continue to celebrate in America today. They will decorate a small tree in 1860’s style. Each guest will also have an opportunity to make a Victorian Tussie Mussie to take home for your own Christmas Tree.
The Lunch and Learn presentation is free, and no registration is required.

Stately Oaks is an 1839 antebellum house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its plain Greek Revival architecture is representative of the era in which it was built. It was originally constructed in 1839 by Mr. Whitmill Allen who sold his home to Robert McCord in 1858 and then moved to Tyler, Texas. The house is located in Jonesboro, Ga.
Stately Oaks is owned by Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County Inc., and features the period house, the home's separate log kitchen, a well house, a tenant house, an 1896 country store, and a one-room schoolhouse.
The house, along with Rural Home, was believed to be the inspiration for Tara, the legendary home of Scarlett O’Hara and her family in Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone with the Wind.

Stately Oaks offers a variety of tours and events throughout the year.
