ARC Accepting Public Comment on Transportation Improvement Plan Amendment

The Atlanta Regional Commission is accepting public comment on an amendment to the regional Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) through April 14. A public hearing will take place on Friday, April 7 at 9:30 a.m., at the beginning of the Transportation Coordinating Committee meeting.

This TIP amendment programs $120 million in federal and state funds for 11 projects across the region. The amended is needed to allocate funds remaining in the fiscal 2023 budget and reflect project cost increases.

The projects include:

Fiscal 2023 Budget Closeout

15th Street extension, City of Atlanta (additional $3.7 million federal funds)
Lenox Road Trail and Safety Improvements, City of Atlanta (additional $4.9 million federal funds)
Rock Quarry Road widening, Henry County (additional $13.3 million federal funds)
State Route 120 (Abbotts Bridge Road) operations and safety improvements (additional $13.1 million federal funds)
North Evermore Parkway extension, Gwinnett County (additional $12.9 million federal funds)
Top End I-285 Express Lanes, preliminary engineering and right-of-way acquisition (additional $44.9 million federal funds)
General Cost Estimate Increases

I-75 collector-distributor lanes from I-285 to Forest Parkway, Clayton County (additional $2.4 million in federal funds)
SR 42 bridge replacement at Norfolk Southern railroad, Henry County (additional $8 million federal funds)
I-85 new interchange at McGinnis Ferry Road, Gwinnett County (additional $2.9 million federal funds)

Leveraging additional federal funds through this TIP Amendment allows local governments to free up local sales tax dollars to accelerate projects. These include:

Countywide resurfacing program
McDonough Parkway extension
Jonesboro Road widening from I-75 to Mt. Carmel Road
Bill Gardner Road widening from SR 155 to I-75
City of Johns Creek:

Old Alabama Road bridge replacements
Nesbit Ferry Road operational improvements
SR 141 (Medlock Bridge) at McGinnis Ferry Road intersection improvements
SR 141 (Medlock Bridge) at SR 120 intersection improvements
The Transportation Improvement Program allocates federal and state funding for transportation projects across the region and is updated several times throughout the year, as projects change or new funding becomes available.
