Communities In Schools of Atlanta (CIS of Atlanta) has received an official proclamation from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and the City of Atlanta commending the nonprofit for 50 years of pioneering programs that surround local students with the resources and support they need to stay in school and reach their full potential in life.  

CIS of Atlanta was given the proclamation during a special tour of Atlanta City Hall. Six Atlanta Public Schools (APS) students were welcomed on the tour, facilitated by City of Atlanta CFO Mohammed Balla, to meet Mayor Dickens and participate in a City of Atlanta finance committee meeting. Students selected included representatives from CIS of Atlanta partner schools Daniel McLaughlin Therrell High School, Carver High School, and Mayor Dicken's alma mater, Benjamin E Mays High School. 

“We are so grateful for this honor and especially excited that our students were able to meet our Mayor and see our city leaders in action,” said Frank Brown, CEO, Communities In Schools Atlanta. “Our work focuses on supporting and inspiring our students so they realize their full potential. We wrap around them the experiences and resources they need to breakthrough barriers and succeed in life. As we say – we believe in success at every address.”

Now the nation’s largest dropout prevention network, Communities In Schools provides vulnerable students with educational assistance, mentorship, and emergency aid. CIS of Atlanta began its mission and work 50 years ago, sparking a national movement by pioneering a new way to empower at-risk students and help them stay in school and achieve in life.

By bringing caring adults into schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS of Atlanta provides a link between educators and the community. CIS of Atlanta currently serves four school districts, including Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County, DeKalb County and Clayton County.
