CaringWorks, one of the largest providers of supportive housing in the metropolitan Atlanta area, has added Grady Health System Vice President of Strategy and Population Health Leslie Marshburn to the organization’s 2023 board of directors. Her extensive experience and leadership in public health, particularly in regards to those experiencing homelessness, will be invaluable as she contributes to guiding the strategic direction for CaringWorks, which for more than 20 years has helped more than 10,000 individuals and families in metro Atlanta escape homelessness by providing quality supportive housing, behavioral health, and a myriad of support services that empower clients to achieve stability and reach their full potential.

At Grady, Marshburn pairs her public health and business background to oversee programs and strategies designed to improve the community's health by increasing access to high quality care and addressing social barriers to care. Additionally, she has a meaningful role in addressing the homelessness crisis in Atlanta as a member of the City of Atlanta Continuum of Care for homeless services governing council and managing partnerships with community-based agencies to support Grady patients experiencing homelessness. With her leadership, Grady is partnering with the City of Atlanta and local community organizations to address alternative solutions for people who are experiencing homelessness and are also chronically high utilizers of emergency services, have a disability and meet Grady’s high utilizer definition.

“Leslie’s knowledge and passion for improving the lives of those experiencing homelessness through healthcare aligns with our mission, and we are delighted to have her join the CaringWorks board,” said CaringWorks CEO Carol Collard. “Our clients remain stably housed because we combine housing with access to services such as behavioral and mental health, and we are thrilled to have Leslie’s guidance in strengthening our program offerings.”

In 2023, CaringWorks seeks to remove barriers to health and stability through its unique programs that are specifically tailored to the needs of those facing chronic homelessness. To address growing unmet behavioral health and other health needs, CaringWorks continues to grow in its capacity and effectiveness to serve by launching innovative programs and services – and enhancing existing ones – to integrate health services more seamlessly with its housing and essential supportive services.

Nearly 90% of CaringWorks’ revenue impacts client care. Because CaringWorks provides access to services that foster dignity, self-sufficiency, and well-being, including access to mental and behavioral health services, CaringWorks residents work, pay taxes, rent apartments, purchase groceries, volunteer, and join faith-based organizations. Over 90% of CaringWorks residents are still housed one year after joining the program.
