Forbes has again ranked Georgia State University’s online Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) program among the top online social work programs in the nation, recently placing it at No. 7.

“An online B.S.W. is just as valuable as an in-person degree as long as the school and program are properly accredited,” Forbes wrote in announcing the rankings. “The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), which provides accreditation to social work degrees, sets strict standards for both online and in-person programs.”

Georgia State’s online B.S.W. is the only such program offered in any of Georgia’s public universities. It was first launched in fall 2021.

“Georgia State University is recognized as a national model for student success,” said Deb Whitley, director of online programs. “Besides receiving a high-quality education, students in our B.S.W. online option are offered advisement and support to be successful in meeting their academic goals. As a school, we hope to graduate highly skilled social workers who are committed to working with individuals, families and communities.”

Forbes scored institutions in categories including credibility, affordability, student outcomes, student experience and application process. Institutional factors like overall completion rate, student-to-faculty ratio and application fees also account for Georgia State’s high ranking.

“We are proud to offer among the most affordable pathways toward the B.S.W. degree,” said Kristie Seelman, director of the B.S.W. program. “The online option helps us reach students outside of the Atlanta metro region who otherwise might not have access to social work degree programs.”

Additional highlights specific to Georgia State’s program are its field placement opportunities in communities both inside and outside of Georgia and its CSWE accreditation.

“Our online program exemplifies the high-quality instruction that is found at our institution, which helps to set us apart from other online programs nationally,” said Ann-Margaret Esnard, interim dean of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. “We’re thrilled our program continues to rank so highly among its online peers.”

Applications for Georgia State’s online B.S.W. degree are now open, with the deadline set for July 1. Learn more about the program and how to apply.
