Georgia State's Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Friday, June 23rd, 2023

The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration, in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023.

The first hospitality students at Georgia State University were enrolled during the summer of 1973 within the College of General Studies where students earned a two-year Associate of Science degree. The hotel, restaurant and tourism department was technically focused and career driven with courses offered in hotel-motel management, restaurants and tourism.

On May 11, 1988, the program was renamed the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration thanks to a generous gift from alumna Deen Day Sanders (A.B. 61) in honor of her late husband and the founder of Days Inn. The School of Hospitality then moved from the College of Public and Urban Affairs into the College of Business Administration in 1996--later renamed after J. Mack Robinson.

Today, the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration has a growing alumni network of more than 2,000 hospitality professionals. The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration consistently ranks among top hospitality programs in the nation based on academic quality, reputation, internship opportunities and real-world learning beyond the classroom.

In honor of the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administrations 50th anniversary, there are several special events planned, including an 50th Anniversary Gala and Hospitality Alumni Awards Celebration on Thursday, October 26 in the Student Center Ballroom.
