UMI Modern Japanese (UMI) unveils their highly anticipated private dining experience with the opening of the Murphy Room, a luxurious dining space that honors the late Atlanta art icon, Todd Murphy.

The Private Dining Room is the next chapter in interior beauty and unparalleled dining experiences for UMI. The space is designed by long-time UMI and Himitsu design partner, Tom Dixon, and will be anchored by Todd Murphy’s “The Swimmer” circa 1994. The room allows the perfect combination of privacy and exclusivity for up to 30 guests and menus can be completely customized.

“Todd Murphy was instrumental in stylizing UMI when we opened our doors ten years ago and so it only made sense to give a nod to the man who helped shape UMI’s look and feel from day one,” says Farshid Arshid, UMI Co-Founder. “The unveiling of the Murphy Room on the eve of UMI’s 10th Anniversary brings everything full circle in true UMI fashion.”

UMI has been a Buckhead staple since its opening 10 years ago. With the addition of the new Murphy Room and an upcoming Omakase Room, UMI provides multiple options for special, unforgettable evenings.

“The client brief often comes in the form of a stream of consciousness about the perfection of the food itself, followed in this case by a piece of art from his collection,” says Tom Dixon. “‘The Swimmer’ triggered the idea for the wavey mirrored ceiling and the dark and moody color palette. The solid timber central dining table represents the philosophy of seeing beauty in imperfection and aging and the lighting levels are kept low and moody to set a reductive, yet sophisticated backdrop to the main star which is of course, the food.”

The Murphy Room will open its doors beginning May 21, 2023.  For reservations, those interested can contact [email protected] or [email protected].
