Georgia Department of Labor Appoints Kate Pfirman as CFO to Drive Fiscal Responsibility and Transparency

The Georgia Department of Labor is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Pfirman as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With a proven track record of financial leadership and a commitment to excellence, Kate Pfirman will help advance the department's mission to enhance operational efficiency, prevent fraud, and ensure responsible fiscal stewardship.

Since assuming office on January 12, 2023, Commissioner Thompson has filled several key positions within his Cabinet, including the Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), and Chief of Staff (COS).

"Georgia taxpayers entrusted me with the responsibility of streamlining our operations and managing our budget, and the appointment of Kate Pfirman is a significant step toward achieving that goal,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “As a Chief Financial Officer by trade, this customer-focused change agent is the perfect fit to reengineer GDOL’s budgetary processes, delivering more efficient results to the citizens of Georgia.”

With over 25 years of leadership experience in various state agencies, including the Georgia Department of Human Resources, the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Georgia Department of Community Health, Pfirman brings a wealth of expertise to her new role.

Pfirman's impressive academic and professional background includes a degree in Economics from Emory University and a master's degree in Accounting from The American University in Washington, DC. Shortly after, she obtained her CPA license, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in financial management.
