Seven Cresswind communities throughout the Southeast participated in the first annual Cresswind STEPtember Challenge last month, sponsored by Kolter Homes. This fun fitness competition between these active adult communities was designed to crown the community with the highest average miles walked per participant.

In total, an estimated 63,214 miles were walked – that’s roughly 126,428,000 steps taken - by 678 Cresswind residents throughout September. The winning community was Cresswind Charleston, with 156 average miles per participant. In addition to the glory of winning, Cresswind Charleston earned an engraved Cresswind STEPtember Challenge trophy to display in their community clubhouse, and Kolter Homes is contributing $3,500 toward a community activity of the residents’ choosing.

The other six participating communities did an exceptional job as well. The final results tallied in at Cresswind Charlotte participants logging an average of 107.7 miles, Cresswind at Lake Lanier with 107.5 average miles, Cresswind Palm Beach at 101 average miles, Cresswind Georgia at Twin Lakes at 100 average miles, Cresswind Wesley Chapel at 94 average miles and Cresswind Lakewood Ranch at 78 average miles.

Not only did this free and fun challenge motivate residents to prioritize fitness, but it simultaneously promoted the relationship aspect of the Cresswind lifestyle brand promise – Set Yourself F.R.E.E. Residents and lifestyle directors got creative with the challenge and scheduled weekly group walks and special walk and talk socials.

“We are blown away at the success of our first annual Cresswind STEPtember Challenge,” said Mark LaClaire, Director of Lifestyle with Kolter Homes. “Beyond the health benefits, residents enjoyed the camaraderie and connection it created, so much so that many are continuing group walks with their lifestyle directors and neighbors even after September!”

To keep track of miles and steps, Kolter Homes partnered with EGYM, a leader in fitness technology that exclusively powers new Cresswind SmartFIT Training Centers with their state-of-the-art circuit training system. Participating residents used Kolter’s “CressFIT” fitness app that EGYM developed to log miles and steps. Residents also use this app to easily track their workouts and fitness activities to monitor progress and connect with fellow fitness-minded neighbors.

Cresswind Charleston resident Diana Linden comments, “This has been one of the best activities. We really enjoyed it, and it sure got us off the couch!”

Look for the Cresswind STEPtember Challenge to become an annual event.
