Free Pickleball Injury Prevention Screenings at PCOM Georgia Set for October 28th

Staff Report

Wednesday, October 25th, 2023

On Saturday, October 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., free pickleball injury prevention screenings will be offered to Metro Atlanta community members at PCOM Georgia, an osteopathic medical school in Suwanee. The screenings aim to help pickleball players stop injuries before they occur.

Doctor of Physical Therapy students, under the supervision of PCOM Georgia physical therapy faculty members, will perform wellness screens that have been developed to assess the specific strength, range of motion, flexibility and functional mobility needed for individuals to play pickleball. The students will also offer advice on preventing injuries and staying on the court longer.

One participant who attended the screening last year found it valuable.
He said,” My wife and I were evaluated and the screening not only identified my balance and her muscle spasm problems, but we were given warm-up exercises and strengthening procedures to practice prior to playing. We not only feel better, but we upped our game.”

Pickleball, a low impact sport that can be played inside and outside, was created in the summer of 1965. A paddle sport played with a plastic wiffle-type ball, it’s a cross between tennis, ping pong and badminton and can be played in a singles or doubles format.
