Monarch butterflies will soon migrate to Mexico for the winter and during their trek, they will stop in Georgia to rest their winds and refuel. To aid in their migration, a group of residents at Cresswind Georgia at Twin Lakes formed The Friends of Monarch Club, dedicated to sustaining the monarch butterfly species.

“The Friends of Monarch Club is giving back to the community and earth while making valuable friendships and connections,” said Paul Beggs, The Friends of Monarch Club Chair.

The club’s conservation measures ensure that monarch butterflies have a suitable habitat to live and grow. Efforts include planting native plants, including wild asters, goldenrod and milkweed, to create an appropriate habitat for the butterflies.

Monarch butterflies are found in open habitats across the peach state in the spring and summer. The species migrates in the fall across Georgia to the mountains of Mexico. The monarch butterfly was declared endangered in 2020, with plans to support and protect the species to start in 2024.
