Gwinnett Chamber Foundation Hosts First-Ever ‘Celebrity Softball Showdown’

New program draws over 1,000 attendees, Benefits minority small businesses

The Gwinnett Chamber Foundation (GCF) recently hosted its first event known as the ‘Celebrity Softball Showdown’ at Coolray Field. The program drew more than 1,000 attendees as Gwinnett residents and business professionals flocked to the Striper’s stadium to take in a star-studded display of friendly competition and sportsmanship. More than 20 celebrities turned out to show their support for minority, veteran, and women-owned small businesses in the Greater Gwinnett region.

“The Gwinnett Chamber Foundation seeks to empower small minority businesses with innovative, equitable resources necessary to grow and thrive,” said Jason DiFranco, Vice President of the GCF. “This event advanced our mission, and we want to thank our sponsors, the attendees, and our amazing celebrities for helping us achieve such resounding success.”

The game featured athletes from college and professional sports, recognizable media personalities in the metro area, and several local leaders. Among the celebrity line-up were Marlon Allen (MLB), Rennie Curren (NCAA), Todd Dagenais (Atlanta Vibe), Shinjini Das (Social Influencer), Trai Essex (NFL), Darrell Hackney (NFL), Ben Hartsock (NFL), T.J. Jones (NFL), Brian Jordan (MLB), Jorge Martinez, Dallas McCade (On Air Radio), Leketor Member-Meneh (Atlanta Vibe), Ovie Mughelli (NFL), Mark Nash, Derek Nesbitt (ECHL), Otis Nixon (MLB), Tyrone Poole (NFL), Tomas Rodriguez, Walter Stith (NFL), and Dez White (NFL).

Army Master Sergeant Cedric King led the presentation of colors with the American Legion Post 233 as country music recording artist Ricky Lee sang the national anthem to kick-off the event’s pre-game festivities. As celebrity players took the field, the first pitch was thrown by Gwinnett County Commission Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson.

The program concluded with a concert from Ricky Lee and successfully raised funds to fulfill the Gwinnett Chamber Foundation’s mission.
