The Historic Plaza Theatre and Fox Theatre Join Forces to Champion Emerging Filmmakers and Preserve Historic Theatre Screenings

The historic Plaza Theatre, Atlanta's longest continuously operating independent cinema, the Fox Theatre, a historic movie palace transformed into a world-class entertainment venue, and South Arts, a leading regional arts organization, are thrilled to announce their partnership for the 2023-2024 edition of The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. This collaboration underscores both theaters' dedication to nurturing emerging filmmakers, preserving the vibrant heritage of historic theaters in our community and amplifying the artistic vision of the South.
South Arts, known for its unwavering commitment to advancing Southern creativity and culture, brings a wealth of experience to The Southern Arts Circuit. As a regional arts organization, South Arts has supported artists and cultural initiatives across the Southern United States for decades. This collaboration with The Plaza and The Fox represents an exciting intersection of film, culture and community.The curated series will commence on Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. with Matthew Hashiguchi’s “The Only Doctor.” The journey continues on Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. with the screening of “Black Barbie” by Lagueria Davis and extends into 2023 with Aaron Hosé's “One Pint at a Time.” The cinematic experience will culminate in February 2024, featuring another set of four groundbreaking films. Audiences can look forward to more than just screenings; each event promises an intimate evening with the directors, offering a unique opportunity for dialogue and insight into their creative processes.
