Friday, October 6th, 2023

Christian City, Inc., a local nonprofit with a 500-acre campus designed to uplift vulnerable children, adults and seniors, today announced the organization has received a $132,027 grant from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. As part of the grant, Christian City will receive assistance from five AmeriCorps members and five volunteers on campus to teach trauma-informed techniques and training to caregivers in on-campus residential facilities and off-campus foster or adoptive homes.

The members and volunteers AmeriCorps provides will work to support various projects and efforts across the campus. The grant was awarded by Georgia Serves, the administrator for AmeriCorps state funding in Georgia, which awards monetary grants and support to qualifying volunteer organizations.

As part of the AmeriCorps Grant Program, Christian City is one of 20 organizations across the state to receive funding. These grants will enable 651 AmeriCorps members to serve communities in Georgia through organizations such as Christian City, tackling some of the toughest problems in Georgia including education, economic opportunities, healthy futures, homelessness, people living with disabilities, financial literacy and environmental issues.

“This AmeriCorps grant will better Christian City’s efforts to serve its residents on each of their individual journeys,” said Keith Horton, President and CEO of Christian City. "We are thrilled to have the support of AmeriCorps in our work, enabling us to improve the lives of our residents and the community. We look forward to collaborating with this team of members and volunteers to achieve this overarching mission."

Christian City’s fast-growing, multigenerational campus is home to a supportive community for vulnerable children, which includes 25 active foster families and several house parents caring for 18 youth on the Christian City Campus.
