New unemployment claims increased slightly week-over-week on September 25, yet were 5% lower compared to the same week last year. To help add some context to these statistics, WalletHub just released updated rankings for theStates Where Unemployment Claims Are Decreasing the Most

Key Stats:

  • Every state had unemployment claims last week that were lower than in the previous week except for Utah, Georgia, Washington, West Virginia, New York, Texas, Rhode Island, Delaware, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Idaho, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Maine, Indiana, North Dakota, Virginia and Alaska. 

  • Surprisingly, 35 states – including Virginia, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania – and the District of Columbia had unemployment claims last week that were worse than the same week last year.
