Commissioner Echols Named Finalist for Lifetime Achievement Award

Georgia Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Tim Echols is a finalist for the lifetime achievement award at the Platts Global Energy Awards. The ceremony, run by S&P Global, will be held in New York on Thursday, Dec 7th.

Winners are chosen by an impartial panel of international experts.

“It is an honor to be selected as a finalist in the lifetime achievement category in these Global Energy Awards,” said Echols. “There are so many worthy finalists up for this award.” 

Commissioner Echols’ efforts have contributed to Georgia ranking 4th in the nation for installed solar.

“On behalf of the members of Georgia SEIA, I would like to congratulate Georgia Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols who was named as a finalist for the Global Energy Awards Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Georgia Solar Energy Industry Association President Pete Corbett. “Commissioner Echols has been a valued friend to the community solar industry and a leader in advancing solar policy in Georgia.” 

Commissioner Echols has been an innovative pioneer. He founded the Electric Vehicle Braintrust and the Hydrogen Energy Braintrust and previously received the Innovator of the Year Award from the Smart Grid Customer Education Symposium. 

“Tim Echols brings energy, innovation, commitment, and caring for others to everything he does, always leading from the head and the heart,” said Kevin Greiner, President of Gas South. “He has been instrumental in encouraging the testing and adoption of new energy technologies, while also ensuring that energy is affordable and reliable for everyone.”

Commissioner Echols led the effort to complete the Vogtle nuclear plant after the Westinghouse bankruptcy. He was awarded the Nuclear Trailblazer Award for those efforts. Most recently, Commissioner Echols was appointed as NARUC chair for nuclear waste. 

“Commissioner Echols has been a beacon of inspiration, leading the charge in electrifying the state of Georgia,” said Joe George of Cox Mobility. “His visionary leadership and encouragement of private-public cooperation has paved the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for our community.”
