Secretary Raffensperger Showcases Georgia’s Election Excellence to National Audience
Monday, February 12th, 2024
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is representing Georgia this week at the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) conference. This bi-annual gathering unites Secretaries of State and Lt. Governors from across the country, providing a platform for the exchange of best practices and the celebration of accomplishments within their offices.
Secretary Raffensperger is taking this opportunity to raise awareness on two key policy issues: ensuring verification that every voter is an American citizen and limiting foreign interference in our elections. Serving as a key member of the NASS Elections Committee and the NASS Cybersecurity Committee, Secretary Raffensperger is utilizing this occasion to spotlight Georgia's commitment to election integrity. With a focus on two critical policy issues, he aims to raise awareness to verify and ensure that only American citizens are registered and only American citizens vote in our elections, and to address the challenges posed by foreign interference in elections.
As a prominent figure within the NASS Elections Committee, Secretary Raffensperger is actively contributing to the committee's mission of educating and informing its members on election administration policies and practices. This extends to tracking proposed election reform proposals, as well as closely monitoring the activities of relevant federal agencies and congressional committees. The committee serves as a vital forum for members to engage in discussions, sharing strategies for enhancing voter participation and exchanging innovative practices in voter education and outreach.
Simultaneously, Secretary Raffensperger's involvement with the NASS Cybersecurity Committee underscores his dedication to fortifying election systems against evolving threats. Foreign actors such as China, Russia, and Iran continue to threaten the exploitation of election systems, and organizations like NASS are on the frontlines in their response. The Cybersecurity Committee focuses on facilitating information sharing among NASS members regarding cybersecurity policies and practices at the state, local, and federal levels.
Secretary Raffensperger's active engagement in these committees exemplifies Georgia's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of election excellence and safeguarding the right for Georgians to cast their ballot freely, fairly, and accurately.
