Discover Dunwoody proudly spotlights Druscilla Smith, recognized as the March recipient in the Travel/Production/Procurement Associates Recognition Program presented by Discover Dunwoody. This initiative is designed to recognize professionals in the film and entertainment industry for their noteworthy contributions. Druscilla's experiences reflect the determination and dedication needed to achieve one's goals.
Druscilla's journey in film and television began at Booker T. Washington H.S. in Shreveport, LA, where she discovered her passion for the craft through the Telecommunication Magnet Program. Building on this foundation, she pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication: Multimedia Production at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.
She started in the industry as an office intern on the feature film 'Leaves of Grass' in Shreveport, LA. Over time, she moved up through various roles, from Office PA and Production Secretary to even experimenting as a 2D Compositor at Worldwide Effects. However, Druscilla found herself drawn back to the production office, where her passion for the industry felt the strongest.
In March 2014, Druscilla sought new challenges and opportunities, leading her to Atlanta, GA. This move was a key milestone in her career, providing new opportunities and enriching her path in the film and television production industry.
Over the past one to three years, Druscilla has made notable contributions to the Georgia production scene. Celebrating her 15th year in the business in 2023, March also marked the 10th anniversary of her move to Atlanta. Her flexibility is clear in her involvement in various productions, including the docuseries 'Group Therapy,' the TV series 'Die Hart Season 2,' and the feature film 'The Color Purple.’
In the coming years, Druscilla is dedicated to ongoing professional development by embracing a mindset of continuous learning. In the field of film production, staying updated on industry trends is essential for success. She aims to expand her knowledge, learn new software, explore innovative programs, and keep up with evolving technologies.
Beyond personal growth, Druscilla aspires to pay forward the support she received by guiding the next generation into the industry. Having overcome challenges with the help of mentors, she now seeks to contribute to the growth of aspiring professionals.
