In honor of World Art Day today, Signia by Hilton Atlanta, the city’s largest ground-up hotel development project in 40 years, officially launched another premiere feature, The Art of Signia, an impressive collection of local and regional art that includes more than 70 pieces located throughout the first five levels of the property. Featured artists include mostly U.S.-based contributors from Atlanta and throughout the Southeast, as well as creatives from Belgium, Canada, Guyana and India, with ties to the area.

In partnership with Gensler and the Drew Company, Atlanta-based Faulkner+Locke curated a diverse art collection that pays homage to Atlanta and the American South, through works including sculpture, photography, ceramics, paintings (oil, acrylic and watercolor), collage, mixed media, works on paper, hardwood or woven/fiber objects, glass and steel. In addition to celebrating the “City of the Trees,” The Art of Signia also features Asian American, West African and Middle Eastern influences in select works.

“Our goal was to create an art program that reflects the beauty of Atlanta and rivals those of a boutique museum,” said Teri Agosta, general manager, Signia by Hilton Atlanta. “As guests explore our property, we hope they are inspired by our city’s rich history and culture that appear in these exquisite works of art.”

Highlights from the collection include:

  • Inspired by the ubiquitous crepe myrtle, the largest work is “Bif ur cations,” a massive 122-inch by 30.5-inch metal and extruded polymer light sculpture, that blends within lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling of the hotel lobby. Commissioned by Georgia Tech architecture professor and artist-in-residence Tristan Al-Haddad, the piece is haint blue as a nod to Gullah folklore, in which the hue was painted on porches to ward off evil spirits.

  • The commissioned panoramic fiber on metal grid piece titled “Floral Cross Stitch” by Atlanta’s Tyrus Lytton is positioned on the first floor. This bold work spans the wall behind the hotel’s check-in desk.

  • The piece “Southern Mansion II” (mixed media on canvas, 1995) by prominent Guyana-born artist Donald Locke(1930 to 2010) was created while he worked and resided in Atlanta. It is located on the second floor of the hotel near the Triumph ballroom.

  • Located on the first floor, a large oil on canvas painting titled “Monument” (2023) was done by veteran Atlanta artistRocío Rodríguez, whose works also are part of the High Museum of Art’s permanent collection.

  • Two “Magnolias” ceramic pieces by New Orleans-based Bradley Sabin, feature dozens of wall-affixed handmade flowers, arranged in a treelike pattern to greet social ballroom visitors on the first floor.

  • Four 2017 watercolors titled “All Possible Worlds” (Falls, Confluence, Swamplands, Mirage) by Caroline Bullock(Atlanta) are featured on the third floor. Bullock’s work also resides in the High’s permanent collection.

  • Watercolors “Emblem of a Memory” and “Sitting Waiting” by Atlanta-based Asian American artist Christina Kwan can be found by the hotel’s spa on the dedicated wellness floor.

  • “The Window” (felt on wood frame, 2023) lies on the second floor, created by Tennessee-born Sonya Yong James(Atlanta), whose cloth and fiber works were exhibited by Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA-GA).

“Signia by Hilton Atlanta’s commitment to the community and the arts, specifically Atlanta-based artists, is incredible to see,” said Sally Faulkner, principal at Faulkner+Locke. “Throughout the hotel, our carefully curated collection of art allows guests to experience the warmth and hospitality of the South from diverse points of view. My team and I are honored to have been a part of this opportunity to showcase the work of so many talented artists.”

Owned by Georgia World Congress Center Authority, the 976-room property offers direct access to the Georgia World Congress Center via a pedestrian walkway and is located steps from Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena. In addition to an impressive art collection, other hotel amenities include eight food and beverage experiences, a spa, beauty bar, fitness center with yoga stations, Peloton bikes, and more. Signia by Hilton Atlanta features more than 100,000 square feet of meeting space, including the largest hotel ballroom in Georgia, an outdoor event deck, and an outdoor event lawn.
