German manufacturer citim AM has announced plans to move to Kennesaw. The company plans to add 28 new jobs and invest $9 million by 2015. The Kennesaw location features a modern shop-floor with the latest laser melting machinery for direct manufacturing of metal components for the American market.
“We do believe that Kennesaw is an economically advantageous location, where we have the potential for economic growth and support. Cobb County offers excellent conditions for a new company like citim AM. A skilled workforce, high living standard, and an excellent logistical location. Cobb County is not only a great place to work, but also to live,” said Andreas Berkau, president of citim AM.
citim AM is part of citim GMBH, a prototype manufacturer headquartered outside of Berlin in Barleben, Germany. For ten years, they have been a leader in the prototype and small batch series manufacturing industry. The company plans for Kennesaw to be a leader in 3D printing of metal manufacturing for prototypes in the US market. These parts are used for functional, dynamic, and long-term tests. citim AM builds prototypes for many different industries including: automotive, motorsports, consumer goods, medical, aerospace, and many others.
“Georgia is an ideal place for a leading global company to grow and innovate,” said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Carr. “With a strong manufacturing network, access to the best and brightest talent and R&D, coupled with an interconnected logistics infrastructure, I have no doubt that citim AM will continue to succeed in Georgia.”
“We are pleased to have citim AM select metro Atlanta for its entry to the U.S. market, and join the robust roster of German companies already in the region. It’s a testament to the strength of the design manufacturing sector here,” said Brian P. McGowan, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “We thank our partners at the Cobb Chamber and the Georgia Department of Economic Development for their efforts to bring new jobs and investment to the region.”
citim AM is another example of global brands choosing Cobb County as their desired site. “Cobb has always been a community where innovation thrives,” said Brooks Mathis, senior vice president of economic development for the Cobb Chamber and executive director of Cobb’s Competitive EDGE. “It is particularly exciting to see that effort come from companies that are international and bring not only jobs and innovation, but cultural diversity to our region.”
