7th Annual Super Tuesday, presented by the Atlanta Business League, Next Week - Uplifting Black Woman Business Owners with The Power to Choose
Friday, October 1st, 2021
Although riding through a global pandemic brings a certain level of uncertainty to us all, forcing us to adapt, change and reinvent what has become our new “normal.” But it has also provided an opportunity to gain clarity around options and one’s ability to choose a new or reinvented path. This is particularly true for Black women business owners, who have remained resilient and hopeful even with the statistics stacked against them.
Super Tuesday has been re-invented again this year and will be hosted virtually on the Hopin platform for the second year in a row. On Tuesday, October 5, ABL’s Super Tuesday will offer its wide range of seminars, interviews, and giveaways.
For 37 years, the goal of Super Tuesday has been to highlight the achievements and accomplishments of Black women business owners and women in fields of commerce.
Throughout the morning and afternoon, sessions on finance, business development, education and mental health will help those who are logged on learn how to better cope with obstacles in their lives and with their companies.
“This year’s conference theme One Great Day: The Power to Choose, highlights the power of choice and self-determination,” said Atlanta Business League President and CEO Leona Barr-Davenport. “Women are agents of change, forging paths that are unique and powerful. This theme is a commemoration of those women who are choosing to live boldly and is designed to inspire those who may be hesitant, that they too have the power to choose!”
The event will also allow participants to meet trendsetters, trailblazers and icons.
The day kicks off with “Rise and Shine with Dr. Patricia Russell-McCloud”, featuring a call to action by Dr. Patricia Russell-McCloud, Esq., president of Russell-McCloud & Associates. Known for her engaging and motivational speeches, she has a history of being a trailblazer. In 1973 she began working for the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), the same year she received her J.D. degree from Howard University School of Law. It was the next year she would make a recommendation to the U. S. Department of Justice that eventually led to the U.S. vs. AT&T Supreme Court case that broke up what was then the largest telecommunications monopoly in the U.S.
Other Super Tuesday highlights include a fireside chat with two icons—retired Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears and Monica Pearson, retired WSB-TV anchor--as well as a host of powerful sessions with impactful speakers: “Being Resilient in the Aftermath of COVID”, “Elevating Each Other for Success”, “The Importance of Prioritizing Self”, “Beyond the Seat – Using Your Voice”, “Ask. Serve. Retain. Grow”, “Becoming Your Super Self”, “The Power of Knowing Your Numbers”, and closing with a powerful general townhall session: “The Power of the Black Woman Vote” moderated by Helen Butler, Executive Director of the Georgia Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda, a non-profit, non-partisan organization comprised of representatives from the human rights, civil rights, environmental, labor, women, young professionals, youth, elected officials, peace and justice groups throughout the State of Georgia and other southeastern states, founded by the late Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, that advocates for voting rights and justice issues.
Additionally, dozens of up-and-coming Black women business owners who recently completed the ABL Take Your Business 2 the Next Level initiative sponsored by Delta Air Lines will be recognized as Businesswomen to Watch.
