Metro Atlanta Community to Celebrate National Philanthropy Day

Monday, October 25th, 2021

On November 4, 2021, The Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will honor visionary philanthropists at its 40th annual celebration of National Philanthropy Day, “Resurgence in Community,” presented by the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Members of the business, not-for-profit, foundation, and volunteer communities will join together to celebrate the role of philanthropy in Metro Atlanta. This year’s festivities will be held virtually. Attendees will enjoy keynote speakers and the opportunity to engage with event sponsors and partners in the field. AFP is excited to pay tribute to Greater Atlanta’s philanthropic leaders and honor those whose work brings hope and a brighter future to our community.

In addition to honoring Sandra Strickland as Philanthropist of the Year and Cherie Aviv as Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year, AFP will recognize several additional fundraising professionals and charitable organizations. The following honorees will receive awards at the event:

  • GALEO: I.D.E.A. (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access) Champion Award

  • Atlanta Community Food Bank: Momentum Award

  • Joi H. Hunter: Stellar Professional Award

  • Lisa Kennedy, ACFRE: Stellar Professional Award

  • Himani Kalra and Gabrielle Tobin: Teen Volunteers of the Year

For their extensive work to mobilize Latino voters in the 2020 elections – which notably included a successful effort to reach every Latino voter in Georgia at least once – GALEO will be honored with the I.D.E.A. Champion Award. This award recognizes organizations that have played a leadership role in advancing principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.

The Momentum Award goes to the Atlanta Community Food Bank for its rapid and comprehensive response to heightened food insecurity during the pandemic.

The Stellar Professional Award will be awarded to two exceptional fundraisers: Joi H. Hunter of the Atlanta Partners for Education/Atlanta Public Schools and Lisa Kennedy, ACFRE and President of the Center for the Visually Impaired. Hunter and Kennedy both demonstrate the highest standard of professional excellence and collegiality.

Himani Kalra of The Westminster Schools and Gabrielle Tobin of the Lovett School will be recognized with the Teen Volunteer of the Year Awards for their outstanding community advocacy and passion for volunteerism.

Ticketing has been adapted to accommodate the virtual platform. More details are available on the AFP Greater Atlanta website at www.afpgreateratlanta.org. For additional information, please email Jenna Brown, [email protected] or call 877-845-0704.
