Stewart Brothers, Inc. is celebrating its 90th year in business during 2022. Since 1932, the company has been an integral player in the growth of the city of Atlanta and the metro region, with one of its earliest projects being asphalt paving at Candler Field, which today is Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Stewart Brothers was founded by Walter B. Stewart, former chairman of the Fulton County Commission. In 1946, he was succeeded by his sons, William C. Stewart and Donald B. Stewart, Sr., who ran the company from the 1950s through the 1960s. In the early 1970s, Stewart, Sr. welcomed his sons, Donald B. Stewart, Jr. and William M. Stewart to the business. The two grew the company into a leading commercial paving contractor in the metro Atlanta region. Significant projects over the years include:

• Original asphalt paving of Georgia 400
• Asphalt paving for the relocation of I-285 under the fifth runway at Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport
• Original paving of Perimeter Mall
• Reconstruction of parking lots at Lenox Square
• Taxi and parking lot paving at many of the region’s airports
• Roads and parking lots throughout the region

Today, the fourth generation of Stewarts has assumed key leadership roles with Stewart, Jr.’s son, Donald B. Stewart III, serving as president. The leadership team and the company’s loyal employees continue to shape the business and play a key role in building and maintaining the region’s infrastructure.

Stewart Brothers is a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)-certified contractor and continues to advance its services. In addition to asphalt paving, the company provides graded aggregate base, full-depth reclamation and soil stabilization services. The company also is a major regional supplier of asphalt through its affiliate company, Metro Materials, Inc., which produces GDOT-approved asphalt materials from four locations throughout the greater metro area.
