Three local charities, Boys & Girls Club of Central Georgia, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Grady Health System, will receive a combined $250,000 to further youth development and healthcare initiatives in Georgia thanks to Atlanta Gas Light’s 9^th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Since the fundraiser’s inception, it has raised almost $2 million for local nonprofits.

“Ensuring every individual's access to equitable, world-class healthcare is paramount, as our children represent the future,” says Pedro Cherry, president and CEO of Atlanta Gas Light. “Atlanta Gas Light aspires to contribute to a more robust and prosperous future for all Georgians. Our ongoing partnerships with nonprofit organizations in our service areas underscores our commitment to be a ‘citizen where we serve’ while providing clean, safe, reliable and affordable natural gas service to customers.”

The donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Central Georgia will benefit the 1,000 children in their after-school programs. For more than 80 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia has provided a safe place for young people to learn and grow while having fun. “Our clubs are a place where great futures are started each and every day,” says Phillip Bryant, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia. “This donation will help us continue to offer our nationally recognized programs during the critical out-of-school hours.” 

Funds gifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will go towards crucial research to help save the lives of the hospital’s young patients. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is a top-ranked children’s hospital with more than sixty pediatric specialties and programs. “We manage more than one million patients each year,” says Nancy O’Kelley, development officer for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “Donations like this one are crucial to our mission of making kids better today and healthier tomorrow.”

The tournament proceeds donated to Grady Health System will help fund their day-to-day operations. More than 850,000 patients visited Grady Memorial Hospital or one of its Neighborhood Health Centers in 2023.

“Grady Health System strives to deliver quality, compassionate care to our patients, provide world-class services to the region such as our Level 1 trauma center, and reduce health disparities by ensuring access,” says Joselyn Butler Baker, president of the Grady Health Foundation. “Donations from our corporate partners like Atlanta Gas Light will help us do just that.”

Past years’ beneficiaries have included The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, LEAD Atlanta and the Champion’s House.
