Hartsfield-Jackson Prepared to Host Nearly 4 Million Passengers Over 4th of July Travel Period

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, July 1st, 2024

Ahead of a busy 4th of July holiday, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) officials are providing travel tips to passengers to navigate the Airport’s increased traffic volume. Nearly 4 million passengers are expected to travel to, from, or through ATL beginning Thursday, June 27, through Monday, July 8. Because Independence Day falls this year on a Thursday, increased passenger volume is expected to extend through the weekends before and after the holiday.

Airport projections point to Friday, June 28, as the busiest day, with over 367,000 passengers. More than 364,000 passengers are expected on Sunday, July 7, and Monday, July 8.

Passengers should arrive at the Airport at least two-and-a-half hours before their scheduled departure times for domestic flights and three hours for international flights. Passengers who require wheelchair assistance or have ADA requirements are recommended to add 30 minutes to those arrival times. ATL’s website, ATL.com, provides current information about parking options, security wait times, and concessionaires. Passengers are also encouraged to monitor the Airport’s social media channels (@ATLairport) and the social media channels of their airlines for updates.

Airport officials also encourage all passengers to thoroughly inspect their luggage and belongings before arriving at the Airport to ensure they are not bringing prohibited items through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. All firearms and ammunition must be packaged appropriately and placed in checked bags. To remain compliant with TSA regulations, visit the “What Can I Bring?” page on TSA.gov for more detailed information.

Green-coated ATL Customer Service Representatives are available to provide travelers with answers, directions, and tips.
