Friday, August 16th, 2024
The Council for Quality Growth is excited to announce the musical tributes for the 2024 Four Pillar Tribute, taking place on October 10, 2024, at the Georgia World Congress Center. This year’s event will honor the Russell family—the late Herman J. Russell Sr., Donata Russell Ross, H. Jerome Russell, and Michael Russell Sr.—for their lasting contributions to the city of Atlanta.
The tribute will feature an extraordinary musical lineup, with supporting music provided by Lil' John Roberts and the Senators, a renowned jazz band celebrated for their electrifying performances. Led by the iconic drummer Lil' John Roberts, whose career spans over three decades, the band is expected to bring a powerful and soulful energy to the event, setting the stage for a night of memorable music.
The main musical tribute will include performances by three prominent artists, each paying homage to musical legends beloved by the late Herman J. Russell Sr.:
- CeeLo Green, a five-time Grammy-winning artist and Atlanta native, will perform a selection from the legendary Sam Cooke. Known for his distinctive voice and his hits such as "Forget You," CeeLo’s rendition of Cooke’s music will honor one of Herman’s favorite artists, bringing a touch of soul and nostalgia to the tribute.
- Chae Stephen, an established R&B and soul artist in the Atlanta region, will perform a piece by Marvin Gaye, another favorite of Herman Russell. Chae’s powerful vocals and emotive style have made him a standout in the contemporary music scene, and his tribute to Gaye is expected to be one of the evening’s highlights, blending the past and present in a soulful performance.
- Alexandra Jackson, a versatile vocalist known for her work in jazz, bossa nova, and R&B, will perform a piece by the legendary Billie Holiday. Daughter of the late Mayor Maynard Jackson, Alexandra has made a name for herself with her ability to seamlessly blend genres and channel the emotion and depth of the music she sings. Her performance at the Four Pillar Tribute is anticipated to be a soulful homage to the legacy of the Russell family.
In addition to these performances, the evening will begin with a special opening act from Herman J. Russell Sr.’s alma mater, the Tuskegee University “Golden Voices” Concert Choir, renowned for their inspiring renditions of gospel and classical music. Under the direction of Dr. Wayne Anthony Barr, the choir’s performance will set a reverent and uplifting tone for the evening, celebrating the legacy of the Russell family with a powerful display of vocal artistry.
