Mayor Andre Dickens Applauds Unanimous Approval of $3.0B FY 2026 Operating Budget Centered on Equity, Innovation & Infrastructure

Mayor Andre Dickens praised the Atlanta City Council for unanimously passing the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which includes a $975.4 million General Fund and a total operating budget of $3 billion across major funds—underscoring the City's continued commitment to equity, innovation, and essential infrastructure investments.
This is the fourth unanimous passage of the annual budget for the Dickens Administration, and the first time it has ever passed on the Council’s Consent Agenda.
“This budget represents our shared commitment to building a city that invests in its people, strengthens our infrastructure and looks to the future,” said Mayor Dickens. “I am grateful to the City Council for their collaboration in advancing a budget that puts public safety, economic growth and sustainability at the forefront.”
Chief Financial Officer Mohamed Balla added, “This $3 billion balanced budget reflects smart, responsible planning—prioritizing impact, equity and long-term value for Atlanta residents.”
FY 2026 Budget Highlights:
Public Safety and Community Programs
Substantial funding has been allocated to strengthen police and fire services and support community-based programs focused on violence prevention and youth engagement.
Affordable Housing and Homelessness Support
The budget continues investments in affordable housing developments and services for those experiencing homelessness, reaffirming the city's commitment to housing stability.
Infrastructure and Transit Improvements
Funds are directed toward essential infrastructure upgrades—including road repairs, sidewalk enhancements, and expanded public transit—to improve mobility and quality of life across Atlanta.
Economic Growth and Job Creation
The budget includes support for attracting new businesses, nurturing small business growth, and creating employment opportunities for residents.
Education and Youth Empowerment
Increased investments in education, after-school programs, and youth employment initiatives aim to support and inspire Atlanta’s next generation.
