Open Doors Atlanta, an Atlanta-based nonprofit dedicated to securing permanent housing for individuals and families exiting homelessness and facing housing insecurity, has raised more than $5.1 million in the first half of 2026 toward its three-year Open Doors WORKS campaign, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of its ambitious strategic plan to transform housing access across Metro Atlanta. The fundraising milestone represents more than 50% of the $9.9 million campaign goal and demonstrates strong confidence from foundations, corporate partners, commercial real estate leaders and individual donors in the organization's vision to build a more responsive, innovative and collaborative housing system.

“Raising half of our three-year goal in just six months reflects the extraordinary commitment of our donors and partners to addressing housing challenges across Metro Atlanta,” said Lisa Hurd, chair of Open Doors WORKS and President and Chief Investment Officer of The RADCO Companies. “This early success provides a strong foundation for our strategic plan and demonstrates the confidence our supporters have in Open Doors' ability to deliver meaningful results. We are grateful for their investment in a vision that will help more individuals and families find and maintain stable housing.”

The Open Doors WORKS 2026-2028 Strategic Plan builds on more than a decade of proven results while responding to an increasingly challenging housing landscape. Since 2013, Open Doors has worked alongside apartment owners, property management companies, nonprofit organizations and public agencies to lower barriers to housing. By the end of 2025, the organization had helped more than 14,000 people secure permanent, stable housing throughout Metro Atlanta.

The new strategic plan comes on the heels of the successful Open More Doors campaign, which exceeded every major organizational goal, including housing more than 4,100 individuals, expanding partnerships with 750 apartment communities and securing more than $7.5 million in philanthropic support.

Open Doors WORKS positions the organization to address the region's growing housing affordability crisis through four strategic priorities:

  • Housing Navigation expands and strengthens access to affordable rental opportunities.
  • Housing Supports help households find, secure, and maintain stable housing.
  • Technology Solutions leverage artificial intelligence to simplify housing searches and streamline the rental process for nonprofit case management partners and select populations of households.
  • Partner+ Funds provide financial tools that help property owners reduce risk, prevent evictions and increase housing opportunities.

The Open Doors WORKS strategic plan expands housing navigation and support services for veteran households and families experiencing housing insecurity, many of whom may not meet the federal definition of homelessness but still face significant barriers to obtaining and maintaining stable housing. Building on its longstanding work with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, Open Doors will broaden its services to reach more households at risk of losing their housing, helping them secure permanent homes and achieve long-term stability.

“Our work has always been about removing barriers that prevent people from securing permanent housing,” said Matt Hurd, Executive Director of Open Doors. “With Open Doors WORKS, we’re building on that foundation by expanding the ways we serve individuals and families, including those who are struggling to maintain housing but may not qualify for traditional homelessness assistance. By strengthening our partnerships, introducing new technology and providing additional financial resources, we can help more households find housing and remain stably housed.”

The plan responds to mounting housing pressures across Metro Atlanta, where more than 230,000 affordable housing units disappeared between 2018 and 2023. At the same time, the Partners for Home 2026 Point in Time report showed a 6% increase in the total number of people experiencing homelessness compared to 2025, indicating that more households entered the homelessness response system seeking support.

Over the next three years, Open Doors aims to house 2,250 households annually, expand its network to 1,000 participating apartment communities and continue developing innovative solutions that make housing more accessible for households experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

"The generosity of our supporters has given us incredible momentum," said Hurd. "As we continue the Open Doors WORKS campaign, we are investing in proven strategies and new ideas that will help more people find housing, remain housed and build brighter futures."

The Open Doors WORKS campaign will continue through 2028 to support implementation of the organization's strategic priorities and ensure Open Doors remains at the forefront of innovative housing solutions for Metro
Atlanta.
