That didn't take very long.
With the prospect of Google launching gigabit Internet service in several metro areas including Atlanta, AT&T is making a countermove.
The wireless carrier said it is considering providing high speed Internet in 21 new major metropolitan areas, including Atlanta.
AT&T said it would deliver broadband speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second to consumers and businesses. Gigabit Internet is up to 100 times faster than basic broadband.
Faster Internet connectivity is considered an economic development tool for cities hoping to attract fast-growing technology, financial and medical services companies that consume large amounts of data.
