Austria Aims to Increase Trade With Georgia

Georgia has a robust trading relationship with countries like Canada, China and Mexico, but Austria doesn’t even crack our top 15 trading partners. During their visit to Atlanta for the Regional Leaders Summit on June 1-3, Gov. Josef Pühringer of Upper Austria and Michael Strugl, Upper Austrian Commissioner for Commerce and Economic Development, sat down with Atlanta Business Chronicle to explain why we shouldn’t count Austria out as a valuable country to do business with.

Last year, Georgia imported $690 million in products to Austria — far more than Georgia exported to the country. Imports from Austria have multiplied in the last few years; in 2010, imports from the country totaled only $298 million. This is great news for Austria’s economy, because its domestic market is too small to absorb what it produces.
