Nordstrom To Close Mall Of Georgia Store
Thursday, October 30th, 2014
Nordstrom today announced plans to close its Mall of Georgia Store in Buford, Georgia. Originally opened in 2000, the store will remain open to serve customers through its last day of business on February 28, 2015.
"We have a great team at the Mall of Georgia store and we've enjoyed serving our customers here, but despite our team's best efforts, the bottom line is that we simply don't do enough business here to continue operating the store into the future," said Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores for the company. "We had the opportunity to end our lease and in looking at our options, it made the most sense for our business to make the decision to close the store."
The closure impacts about 174 non-seasonal employees. "With a number of Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in the greater Atlanta area, we have let our people here know that if they want to stay with our company, we'll do our best to help them find a role," said Nordstrom. Employees who do not have a role at another store and remain until their last scheduled shift will be provided with a separation plan.
Nordstrom remains committed to serving customers in the Atlanta area at two full-line Nordstrom stores at Phipps Plaza and Perimeter Mall, and at four Nordstrom Rack stores at Mall of Georgia Crossing, Buckhead Station, North Point Market Center and Perimeter Expo.
