AT&T Confirms Plans to Deliver U-verse with AT&T GigaPower to Atlanta Area

AT&T confirmed today it will expand its ultra-fast AT&T GigaPower network to the City of Atlanta and the City of Sandy Springs. The all-fiber network will deliver Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, and AT&T's most advanced TV services to consumers and small businesses. 

In addition to Atlanta and Sandy Springs, AT&T also announced today that it will deploy the AT&T GigaPower network in Decatur and Newnan to meet the growing demand for ultra-fast Internet.  The network enhancements will enable residential and small business customers to have access to the fastest Internet speeds available from AT&T. 

Local residents and small businesses on the AT&T GigaPower network will also experience cutting-edge TV services with the ability to watch and record five simultaneous HD streams, and AT&T's largest capacity DVR with a one terabyte hard drive.

Specific locations of availability and pricing will be announced at a later date. 

On April 21, 2014, AT&T announced a major initiative to expand its ultra-fast AT&T GigaPower fiber network to up to 100 candidate cities and municipalities throughout 25 markets nationwide.  To date, U-verse with AT&T GigaPower has launched to tens of thousands of customer locations across the Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth markets.  The AT&T GigaPower network will also be delivered to the Charlotte, Chicago, Cupertino, Greensboro, Houston, Jacksonville, Fla., Miami, Nashville, Overland Park, Kan., Raleigh-Durham, San Antonio, St. Louis and Winston-Salem markets.

Additionally, AT&T has committed that upon approval of its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV, the company will expand the AT&T GigaPower network to 2 million locations over and above what the company announced in April. 

Other AT&T initiatives in 2014 include:

  • Enhance and expand its 4G LTE wireless network, the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network.**** AT&T 4G LTE wireless service is available in 27 major cities across Georgia. 
  • Expand its U-verse footprint to more areas of Georgia. U-verse is currently available in Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Brunswick, Gainesville and surrounding communities.

AT&T invested more than $4.95 billion in its Georgia wireless and wireline networks from 2011 through 2013, and employs more than 21,000 people in the state.
