Atlanta Fed Names Brown Vice President, Byrd-Sorrells Assistant Vice President

Anita Brown has been named vice president and controller in the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's financial management and planning department, announced Dennis Lockhart, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Fed. Lockhart also announced that Tonya Byrd-Sorrells has been named an assistant vice president in the human resources department.

Brown is responsible for financial management and planning's general ledger, financial statements, accrual accounting, asset management and procurement. She also oversees expense, travel and discretionary expenditures. In her new role, Brown assumes additional responsibilities associated with Bank financial reporting and will represent the financial management area at the System level.

Brown began her Atlanta Fed career in the former fiscal agency/securities services department in 1973 and was later promoted to director in financial services support. She has held positions of increasing responsibility in accounting, checks, business development, financial services support and facilities. She was promoted to assistant vice president in 2012.

Brown attended Georgia State University and has completed executive education programs at Emory University and the University of Tennessee.

Byrd-Sorrells assumes responsibility for talent acquisition, payroll, human resources information system, leave management and employee relations. She joined the Bank 25 years ago as management associate in the Jacksonville Branch. She held positions of increasing responsibility in multiple departments in Jacksonville before transferring to Atlanta in 1993. 

In Atlanta, Byrd-Sorrells held a variety of roles in the check operations and support areas before joining the human resources department as a manager in 2003. Since then, she has held management positions in administration, employee relations, communications and workforce development and diversity. In 2010, she was promoted to business liaison supporting the operations and administration services division and technology solutions services, and she subsequently expanded her support to a number of other areas. Most recently, Byrd-Sorrells served as the interim director responsible for talent acquisition. 

Byrd-Sorrells earned her bachelor of science degree at Georgia Tech.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia and sections of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. As part of the nation's central banking system, the Atlanta Fed participates in setting national monetary policy, supervises numerous commercial banks and provides a variety of financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
