Georgia DOT Eyes Tunnel, Double-Deck for Downtown Connector

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to examine a wide variety of options to reduce congestion on the Downtown Connector, possibly including tunnels or a double-decked roadway.

The agency is looking at "very large-scale, innovative, or unconventional ideas, intended to explore these concepts and respond to various inquiries GDOT has received over the years but with recognition that they may not be implementable."

It also will also consider "large-scale ideas that are practical, have been shown to be effective elsewhere, and are financially realistic."
