Amerigroup Community Care, which has served Georgia for more than 10 years, kicked-off 2015 with a variety of community events and donations. During the last four months, Amerigroup has given computers to nonprofit organizations, provided thousands of school supplies to kids and parents, hosted community breakfast events, provided free health screenings and hosted more than 2,800 community events around the state.

Recent donations include:

  • Academy of Pediatrics to assist pediatric practices in obtaining NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) recognition.
  • ChildKind to expand its medical care training and service coordination within the Placement Services Program for youth with complex medical care needs and developmental disabilities.
  • Georgia Association of Primary Health Care: to offer counseling and information to women in Federally Qualified Health Centers about spacing births appropriately and reducing the number of low birth weight babies in Georgia.
  • Multi-Agency Alliance Children (MAAC) to support youth in Foster Care who were transitioned to community settings through the Child Welfare Champion Project. Additional support was provided to the Crisis Continuum Pilot to assist the Division of Family Children Services to minimize hotel housing for youth in crisis.
  • YMCA Youth Fit 4 Life is an after-school physical activity and health behavior change program for youth 5-12 years old. The program includes cardiovascular exercise and strength activities along with an interactive, age-appropriate behavioral skills training component.

Around Georgia, more than 4,000 youth received free Boys & Girls Club memberships from Amerigroup, and 1,000 girls enjoyed free memberships to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.

In March, Amerigroup President and CEO Fran Gary served as the keynote speaker for the second annual Disconnected Youth Conference, which aimed to improve outcomes for foster care, homeless and other disconnected youth.

“Amerigroup has worked with many tremendous community partners and we continue to seek out impactful programs,” said Gary. “In 2015 we have hosted close to 3,000 events around Georgia, designed to support the community and make things a little easier for our members.”

Last month, Amerigroup conducted seven Community Breakfast events throughout Georgia, which gathered organizations and community leaders dedicated to assisting the Medicaid and Foster Care population. More than 1,000 people participated in these events, and approximately 70 computers were donated to various local nonprofits.

Amerigroup will launch the second year of its Farmer’s Market Initiative in May, bringing fresh fruit and produce to the most vulnerable populations and their communities.
