Atlanta City Council President to Serve as Atlanta Tech Commencement Speaker

Atlanta City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell will address the Atlanta Technical College class of 2015 during commencement exercises on May 29, 2015.  The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. and will be held at the Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.

Attorney Ceasar C. Mitchell serves as 7th President of the Atlanta City Council. Prior to being elected Council President, he served eight years as a citywide Councilmember. As a public official, Mitchell advocates for safer communities through specific initiatives including police foot patrols. He has championed key legislation facilitating economic revitalization in underdeveloped areas by authoring measures to create 4 of the city’s 10 Tax Allocation Districts and supporting legislation for community input in the Beltline Project.

Mitchell is actively committed to the education and enrichment of Atlanta’s youth as reflected in his semi-annual College Prep Series—a college admissions exam preparation program. To date, more than 4,500 middle & high school students and their parents have participated. Mitchell has also been a champion for post-secondary education, encouraging residents to utilize Georgia’s innovative institutions of higher education as springboards for career success.

Mitchell is a native Atlantan, the son of an Atlanta Police Officer and Atlanta Public Schools Teacher, and a graduate of Benjamin E. Mays High School. He is an honor graduate of Morehouse College with dual majors in Economics and English. Mitchell earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law where he served on the International Law Journal and won a national moot court championship in constitutional law. Council President Mitchell is married to Dr. Tiffany Yarn Mitchell and the proud father of two young daughters.
