Prolific Atlanta-based Fuqua Development, along with The Worthing Companies and officials from the City of Duluth, today participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking for Sugarloaf Market, a 31-acre, mixed-use project located at the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
Anchored by the organic grocery store Sprouts Farmers Market, Sugarloaf Market will include 75,000 square feet of retail and 330 luxury apartments. Fuqua Development is the master developer for the project. Fuqua Development is developing the commercial component of the project and The Worthing Companies is developing the residential component.
Participating in the groundbreaking were Fuqua Development’s Principal Jeff Fuqua and Partner Heather Correa, The Worthing Companies’ President Darin Collier and Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris along with other City officials.
“This is an exciting day for our companies and for the City of Duluth as well,” stated Jeff Fuqua. “Clearly, Duluth has been ready for this kind of development for some time and, working cooperatively with City government, we have been able to move from concept plans to the beginning of construction in a relatively short time.
“At Sugarloaf Market,” Fuqua continued, “we are creating a singular, mixed-use environment that will serve the residents in the development’s luxury apartments but will also provide retail, service and restaurant amenities for the surrounding community.”
The initial line-up of restaurants and shops coming to Sugarloaf includes Chipotle Mexican Grill, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Orange Theory Fitness, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Zoe’s Kitchen, RaceTrac, Waffle House, Panda Express, Banfield Pet Hospital, Supercuts, Luxury Nail, Pie Five Pizza and AT&T. These establishments are expected to open for business starting Spring 2016.
Additionally, negotiations are underway with potential tenants for smaller shop spaces as well as larger outparcels.
Named The Heights at Sugarloaf, the residential component of the new project will include five residential buildings with one, two and three-bedroom luxury apartments. “Added to the exciting mix of retail, service and restaurants already in the making, our residential development will round out the most exciting new development in the City of Duluth.,” stated Worthing’s President Darin Collier.
The Heights at Sugarloaf will offer 330 apartment homes featuring high-end finishes, designer-inspired appointments and appliances along with onsite amenities like a resort-style swimming pool and deck with Wi-Fi, grilling areas, a fitness club and other lifestyle services.
“At The Worthing Companies, we believe in providing our residents with luxury units surrounded by thoughtful amenities that cater to busy lifestyles”, stated Collier. “The Heights at Sugarloaf will bring much-desired luxury apartment homes to the affluent Duluth market.”
Preliminary site work is currently underway with vertical construction set to commence by July. Pieper O’Brien, Herr Architects, designed Sugarloaf Market while Parker Associates designed The Heights community. Site work is being completed by Eagle Excavation.
