Mercer University’s Tift College of Education will host a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) panel discussion on May 11, 3:30-6:30 p.m., on the Cecil B. Day Graduate and Professional Campus in Atlanta.

The discussion will involve the latest on tiered certification and other important updates from the GaPSC. It will take place in the second-floor auditorium and atrium of the Atlanta Administration and Conference Center.

The panel discussion will be divided into two sessions. The first, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., is targeted at preparers of teachers, while the second, from 5-6 p.m., is targeted at current teachers or teacher candidates. A reception, open to all, will follow from 6-6:30 p.m.

“The faculty and staff of Tift College of Education are honored to host this event,” said Dr. Paige Tompkins, interim dean of the College. “Good practice relies on accurate information. The panel will be an excellent forum for current and future educators, as well as those who prepare educators, to converse with, and learn from, GaPSC leaders about the changes to the profession we all face.”

The panel will consist of Kelly C. Henson, executive secretary of GaPSC, Dr. David M. Hill, director of the Educator Preparation and Certification Division of GaPSC, Anne Marie Fenton, director of educator assessment at GaPSC, Kelli Young, assistant division director of the Educator Preparation and Certification Division of GaPSC, and Penney McRoy, assistant director of educator preparation at GaPSC.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Penny L. Elkins, chair of the GaPSC and senior vice president for enrollment management at Mercer.

The event is open to the public; however, preregistration is required for one or both sessions.
