Dentons is pleased to announce that Newt Gingrich, former US Speaker of the House of Representatives, US Presidential candidate, commentator and author, will join the Firm as Senior Advisor in the Firm's Public Policy and Regulationpractice.

Gingrich's decision to join Dentons follows two significant announcements about the Firm's expansion--its planned merger with US firm McKenna Long & Aldridge, and its combination with Chinese firm 大成.

"In an increasingly interconnected global business environment, our clients need insight from leaders who know how to navigate the critical intersection of business, law, regulation and policy," said Joe Andrew, Global Chairman of Dentons. "Known as an innovator, a challenger and a leader, Newt's ability to engage and advance the goals of our clients fits perfectly with Dentons' commitment to deliver to clients high-quality talent everywhere they want to do business."

"Dentons' unmatched global presence coupled with its recent expansion in the US is a real draw," said Gingrich. "The Firm is committed to doing something unique, challenging the traditional and innovating in the legal profession with an emphasis on knowing and understanding communities around the world for the benefit of clients. It's exciting and I look forward to being a part of it alongside a distinguished group of former policymakers and opinion leaders."

Gingrich was first elected to the US Congress in 1978 where he served the Sixth District of Georgia for twenty years. In 1995, he was elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives where he served until 1999. While serving in the US House of Representatives, Gingrich worked to support efforts to pass welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, he led efforts in Congress to restore funding to strengthen defense and intelligence capabilities.

From May 2011 to May 2012, Gingrich was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. As an author, he has published twenty-six books including 14 fiction and nonfiction New York Times best-sellers.

He is widely recognized as a thought leader across a number of industries and sectors including health care and life sciences, homeland security, defense and intelligence, international trade and energy, in addition to being a well-respected commentator on US presidential elections.

Deep strength in US and international government and regulatory affairs

Gingrich joins an extraordinary team that includes former national party officials, ambassadors, members of the US Congress and top aides to US presidents, governors and senators.

Dentons is home to a deep bench of international, national and local leaders, including Jean Chrétien, the former Prime Minister of Canada; Bill McCollum, former Attorney General of Florida and Member of US Congress (FL); Joe Andrew, the former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee; and other high profile international leaders and statesmen. With the merger with McKenna Long & Aldridge, the team will also include Howard Dean, former US presidential candidate and former Governor of Vermont; Ambassador Gordon Giffin, former US Ambassador to Canada; Eric Tanenblatt, who served in the administrations of Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush; Ron Kaufman, former White House Political Director for President George H. W. Bush; and a significant team of influential leaders.

Gingrich will be a part of the new Dentons US Public Policy and Regulation practice. The practice will be chaired by Ambassador Giffin, with Eric Tanenblatt and Mike Zolandz serving as Co-Practice Leaders.
