Georgia DOT Exec Calls for More Flexibility From Feds

A $200 million widening of Georgia 400 in Forsyth County should be under way by late this fall, only a year after voters there approved a referendum to pay for the project.
Such a quick timetable is possible only because 90 percent of the work is being funded locally, Meg Pirkle, chief engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT), told a congressional panel in Atlanta Tuesday.
