Monday, November 16th, 2015
Ron Rogowski, vice president of global brand and sponsorship for Atlanta-based UPS, has been named chair of the Atlanta Sports Council (ASC), the organization announced today. Rogowski takes over for Thomas Carroll, head of division wealth management for SunTrust Bank, who served a two-year term (2013-2015).
“Thomas Carroll has been a tremendous chairman over the past two years,” said Dan Corso, Atlanta Sports Council executive director. “We look forward to having Ron come on as chairman, he is a great fit for our organization and we are excited to work with him as we continue our sports recruitment and development efforts in metro Atlanta.”
Rogowski joined UPS in 1985, and has held various positions with the organization in sales and marketing. A native of Detroit, he holds a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and a master’s degree from the University of Detroit. Rogowski has been an active member on the ASC Board of Directors since 2010 when Dan Corso became executive director.
“It’s a very exciting time to be named chairman of the Atlanta Sports Council. The ASC has played a pivotal role in recruiting large-scale sports events to metro Atlanta, and I look forward to the opportunity to be associated with this continuing effort, said Rogowski. “There is truly no better time to live in Atlanta, and the ASC is helping make sure of that.”
The Atlanta Sports Council’s board of directors is comprised of more than 45 Atlanta corporate leaders and executives representing Atlanta’s professional teams, facilities, sports properties, media, hospitality community and corporations. The board helps determine the strategic direction of ASC initiatives.
The ASC was named the 2015 Sports Commission of the Year, by the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC), and has played a significant role in helping to attract more than 100 major sports events to the 29-county metro Atlanta region since its inception. During Carroll’s time as chairman, the ASC recruited several marquee events including:
- CONCACAF Gold Cup (2015)
- Major League Lacrosse Championship (2015)
- Reebok CrossFit Games Atlantic Regional (2015)
- ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship (2016)
- NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships (2016)
- College Football Playoff National Championship (2018)
- NCAA Men’s Basketball South Regional (2018)
- NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four (2020)
“Looking ahead, the organization has big goals for Rogowski’s tenure, including successfully landing the 2019 or 2020 Super Bowl, which Atlanta was named a finalist for this past May,” Corso said.
