Lawmakers OK Tax Break Aimed at Downtown Atlanta Redevelopment

The General Assembly Thursday overwhelmingly approved a tax break that would help developers build a mixed-use project in a blighted area of downtown Atlanta near Philips Arena.

A bill the Georgia Senate passed 42-8 Thursday afternoon would offer sales tax rebates in connection with the revitalization of a huge swath of downtown between Philips and Underground Atlanta, including an area known as “the Gulch." The state House of Representatives followed suit 131-27 Thursday night, with less than an hour remaining in this year's legislative session.
