Georgia’s Own Credit Union Partnership with Action Ministries Raises $32K to Ease Childhood Hunger
Monday, September 12th, 2016
Each year, approximately 1 million children in Georgia lose access to lunch when school ends for the summer. Georgia’s Own Credit Union partnered with Action Ministries again this summer to provide a safety net for children in their community. The credit union spurred their customers to donate more than $32,000 over the past two years with their “BagIt” campaign to ease childhood hunger.
Georgia’s Own customers and partners’ donations of $5 fed a child in need lunch for two days. It also sent a clear message that Georgia’s Own is invested in the children in their communities. Donations were made in branch locations and online via text message.
“Partners like Georgia’s Own Credit Union, who have generously supported our efforts to lead people out of poverty in Georgia for many years, are wonderful examples of what a big difference we can make in the lives of our neighbors in need when we work together,” said Action Ministries President and CEO John Moeller Jr. “They wanted the kids in their communities to know that someone is looking out for them, and they accomplished that in a big way through the gift of hunger relief.”
“Partnering with Action Ministries has provided some of the most rewarding and enriching experiences for our employees,” said Dave Preter, Georgia’s Own Credit Union CEO. “Whether it’s coming together as a group to serve at their Atlanta Women’s Kitchen, bringing in items for our Big Give initiatives or challenging different departments to see how much one another can raise for the Smart Lunch, Smart Kid campaign, this type of meaningful involvement in our communities brings us closer as a team and affords us tremendous opportunities to further our mission of corporate stewardship.”
Action Ministries thanks Georgia’s Own and all of its incredible partners that make Smart Lunch, Smart Kid possible for food-insecure children.
