Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, metro Atlanta’s leading resource for breast cancer screening, diagnostic and support services, today announced the appointment of Rick Aranson as the nonprofit’s new executive director. Aranson, who previously held the position of chief operating officer of Komen Atlanta, brings a background in business that spans more than 25 years, including 16 years of experience as a leader in Atlanta’s nonprofit sector.
“Rick is a methodic and innovative leader who has helped shape Komen Atlanta’s strategy of eliminating breast health disparities for African American women in metro Atlanta,” said Cati Diamond Stone, outgoing CEO of Komen Atlanta and current vice president, community health, Susan G. Komen.
Prior to joining Komen Atlanta, Aranson served as the chief executive officer of Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta, and in 2015, he was recognized as one of the 50 most influential nonprofit leaders by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
“Rick has an unwavering passion for ensuring that every Atlantan has the opportunity to detect and survive breast cancer, and the seamless transition of leadership will ensure that Komen Atlanta continues to drive impact in our community,” said Darrell Green, President of the Komen Atlanta board of directors.
Effective immediately, Diamond Stone joins the Susan G. Komen global organization as Vice President, Community Health. In this role, she will develop strategic objectives for community health so all programs are optimally positioned to achieve the greatest impact in providing, expanding and protecting access to evidence-based education, high quality health care and system improvement in the U.S.
In April, Susan G. Komen announced it will begin a process to integrate the operations of its affiliate network into a single incorporated entity with the national organization. Both Aranson and Stone will be involved in the overall Komen transformation strategy and implementation.
